The Sanela Salon is now open
By Ashley Studley / astudley@wickedlocal.com
About two weeks ago, Sanela Catovic rallied up three of her friends – former co-workers – to open Sanela Salon on Beacon Street.
Sanela Catovic always wanted her own salon.
The West Roxbury woman started working on hair in Bosnia when she was 14 – a trade that brought her to work in salons in Greater Boston.
Q: Why did you guys open?
Sanela always wanted to have her own salon. We all worked at a salon [in Newton Centre] and she left first and went to work in West Roxbury for a year. Then she found this place and brought us all here. Us four girls kept in touch, and Sanela kept in touch with us and wanted us to work with her.
Q: What services do you offer?
Cuts, color, hair treatments like Keratin, and hopefully we’ll be adding nails soon, too. We have two stylists right now, and six chairs, so we’re in the process of hiring more stylists.
Q: What makes you unique?
It’s new and we’re going to stand out. Our customer service is beyond any other. We really want to be involved in the community and we’re already helping out two other charities.
Q: How is business so far?
We have a lot of walk-ins, kids from college, and a lot of Brookline residents walking in and welcoming us. It’s been great. The train stops right [outside], so people see us when they get home from work. It’s been very good the past two weeks. We carry Orbe, which is very unique and high-end. Retailers like Bloomingdales use them.
Q: Price range?
Cuts start at $45 and prices go up to $93. Men’s haircuts start at $35.
Q: Hours of operation?
We’re open Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have a website, under construction, at sanelasalon.com.
